Nassau

Three bets in one round — the front 9, the back 9, and all 18.

A Nassau is the most popular bet in golf because one round gives you three chances to win: a separate bet on the front nine, the back nine, and the total 18.

How it works

Agree on a stake — a "$5 Nassau" means $5 on the front, $5 on the back, and $5 on the total, so up to 3× is on the line. Lowest score wins each segment; a tie pushes (nobody pays).

With handicaps

Uneven players give strokes to even things out. Strokes are applied per side (front and back), then each side's net total is compared — so a higher handicap can lose the gross and still win the bet.

Example

You play a $10 Nassau. You win the front (+$10), your buddy takes the back (−$10), and you steal the 18 on the last hole (+$10). Net: you're up $10.
